(136) Probably one of the studios well-known to foreigners but not locals, IFD Films and Arts (通用影藝) was established in 1973, being one of the oldest film companies in Hong Kong, currently holding a lineup of over 200 titles with an extensive range of genres, from action-adventure, thriller-action, suspense-action, war-action, to full-length animation, and a rich character canon including Bruce Lee clones, ninjas, mobsters, psychopaths, femme fatales and, surprisingly, a giant snake. IFD's founder Joseph Lai (黎幸麟) and the late Tomas Tang (鄧格恩) also formed an affiliate Asso Asia Film (通用影業). Later Tang set up its own Filmark International (新通用影業) while Lai had Adda Audio Visual (采藝製作) to handle the animation distribution. The name Godfrey Ho was often seen as directors of both IFD and Filmark titles. Currently IFD Film Arts and Services owns all the IFD, Asso Asia, Filmark and Adda Audio Visual libraries. Known by a few, the characters IFD incidentally refer to Intercontinental Film Distributors (洲立影片發行), a successful local film distributor for foreign titles, which was formed by Terry Lai, Joseph's sister who inspired him to the film industry.
