IMDG Code - What is N.O.S.
In the context of the IMDG Code, N.O.S. stands for "Not Otherwise Specified". This designation is used for substances, mixtures, solutions, or preparations that do not have a more specific name listed in the UN Dangerous Goods List. When a substance is classified under an N.O.S. entry, it means that the substance has hazardous properties but does not fit into any of the specific categories provided in the list. For example, if a mixture contains hazardous ingredients that are not individually listed, it might be classified as "Flammable Liquid, N.O.S." with a technical name in brackets to specify the hazardous components, such as "UN1993, Flammable Liquid, N.O.S. (ethanol, isopropanol)". This ensures that even if a substance doesn't have a specific name, it is still properly identified and handled according to its hazardous properties.
