iMovie Tutorial: Screen Recordings with Face Overlay
Instructional videos with screen recording are much more engaging for viewers when you overlay video of your face as you present the screen recording. This video shows you how to easily create such recording using iMovie. Open Settings 2. Tap ‘Control Center’ 3. Tap ‘Customize Controls’ 4. Tap the green ‘+’ button next to ‘Screen Recording’ 5. To start/stop a screen recording, open control center (drag down from the top-right corner of you device’s screen) and tap the record (dot in a circle) button. On an Apple 1. Open QuickTime* 2. Select File… ‘New Screen Recording’ 3. Use one of the two right-most options (before the actual ‘Options’ button): Either select a portion of the screen or record the entire screen. 4. Select ‘Options’ and check that audio is being recorded on the correct device. 5. Click ‘Record’ 6. You can stop the recording by clicking the stop sign in the tool bar or hitting command-shift-5 to pull open the controls again. *Instead of opening QuickTime, you can use command-shift-5 to open these controls at any time. Superimposing your face in iMovie 1. Transfer all the files you need to the device with which you do your editing and open iMovie. 2. Drag the screen recording into your iMovie project (into the timeline.) 3. Drag the video of yourself into the timeline and release it ABOVE the clip of the screen recording. 4. Click on the video you just dropped. “Video overlay settings” should be open in the inspector. (The setting that shows a two overlapping squares.) Select ‘Picture in Picture.’ 5. Look for a cue in the two videos (I identified a moment when I did something in the screen recording that I said in the video) so you can align the two videos. 6. If necessary, drag in the audio clip and align it with the video.
