Improper Generac Generator Install - Things I Found Wrong

This is a whole home generator install that I came across that the contractor did not pull a required permit. There is no problem with the Generac Generator. It is working and running fine. In fact, I have had a whole home generator from Generac and was very happy with it. As a consumer you must ask the contractor and have them provide proof that they pulled the required permits. Some of the issues I see with this install: 1. The minimum clearance for a whole home generator is 18". For me I think 3' would be better. So, you can trim the grass and the generator has enough ventilation etc. 2. Installed too close to the gas regulator. We should keep ignition sources away from gas regulators. 3. Non-fused conductors running through the same conduit as fused conductors. Also, the Non-fused should not run through another piece of equipment as a short cut. Conductors other than service conductors shall not be installed in the same service raceway or service cable. 4. Once a new first means of disconnect is installed you need to separate the grounds and neutrals of the former first means of disconnect. This was not done on this install.
