This presentation highlights various habitat practices including channel re-meandering, reconnecting floodplains, and riparian vegetation establishment. Lessons learned on how to identify priority sites, use science and field data to guide design, and work with partners to move projects from concept to construction are shared. PRESENTERS Jennifer Biederman is the habitat director for Minnesota Trout Unlimited, coordinating restoration projects on cold water ecosystems across the state, including in-stream habitat improvement, riparian forestry, and fish passage. She has also done research on coldwater ecosystems in the Driftless, including on the seasonal feeding and growth dynamics of brown trout. Matt Kempinger is an Engineering Technician for the SE SWCD Technical Support JPB. He provides technical assistance to Soil and Water Conservation districts across 11 counties of southeast Minnesota. He designs and implements a broad range of conservation projects, from agricultural best management practices to stream restorations. Through his current position and previous roles, he has spent about 12 years studying and working on aquatic ecosystems, erosion control, and watershed level conservation. This webinar was hosted through a partnership of the University of Minnesota Extension's Ecological Restoration Training Cooperative and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Legacy Fund Restoration Evaluation Program.
