Inside the Eiffel Tower’s Hidden Machine Room

When the Eiffel Tower first opened in 1889, five hydraulic elevators went into service: one in each of the four pillars, and one operating between the second and third floors. For the tower’s first ten years, the power needed to run these elevators came from steam engines installed in a machine room hidden underground beneath the South Pillar. This short, members-only video gives a look inside that machine room, a space not fully shown in the main video. We also created a detailed cutaway poster inspired by this video, showing the tower from the ground up. 👉 Get the poster here, every order helps support the channel so we can keep creating projects like this: https://crowdmade.com/collections/deconstructed/products/deconstructed-eiffel-tower-poster
