Most learning to read programs isolate reading sub-skills, such as oral phonemic awareness or letter-sound knowledge, into separate lessons. But the science of how the brain learns to read suggests that children learn to read by connecting their oral language systems with the new orthographic (or print) information. When we integrate multiple reading sub-processes in just a handful of activities, we are more efficient and effective. Please see our Build It lesson for those who are learning letter-sound knowledge, the concept of the alphabetic principle, phonemic segmentation, and early decoding and spelling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WENJEPfJM-Q Or, see our Switch It activity for a more challenging version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ETmdloGRUo
