This video was made for those who missed the class session of Music Theory III in which Extended Tonicization was introduced using passages from two bridge sections: (1) the bridge in Claude-Michel Schönberg and Herbert Krezmer’s “I Dreamed A Dream” from Les Miserables and (2) the bridge in Jimmy McHugh and Dorothy Fields’ “I’m in the Mood for Love.” The session began with a quiz on writing applied dominant seventh chords. Since I started the recording only after the quiz, I have provided the plan for the class period and the entrance music that were displayed & played at the beginning of class. These are followed by the directions for the quiz so that you can try it out yourself before seeing discussion of the quiz. You need to be able to write each chord in no more than one minute in order to finish this timed quiz. Give yourself 7 minutes to write the 7-chord progression on the practice quiz.
