The ethical codes are developed not only to protect the clients against abuse or malpractice by professionals but also to shield counsellors while dealing with individuals and families. A code of ethics provides structure to guidelines for a profession’s membership to follow in professional practice and also for the public to anticipate in interactions with the profession and its membership.
