iPhone 17 Pro Max: I was wrong

It’s been about four months since the iPhone 17 Pro Max launched, and after daily use, I think I might’ve been wrong about this phone… just not in the way people expect. In this long-term review, I break down how the iPhone 17 Pro Max has actually held up over time, including durability, battery life after updates, performance, Apple Intelligence, camera quality, and overall day-to-day usability. One of the biggest surprises for me was durability. Apple brought aluminum back to their high-end iPhones this year, and while that decision makes sense thermally, it comes with some real downsides. Aluminum is much softer than stainless steel or titanium, and after a few normal drops, my iPhone 17 Pro Max has picked up more scratches and dings than any recent iPhone I’ve owned. Side-by-side with my year-old Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, the difference is honestly shocking. Apple also claims the display is more scratch-resistant this year, but in my experience, that hasn’t held true. I’m seeing more micro-scratches than I ever did on my previous iPhones, despite using the phone the exact same way. On the flip side, the display itself is excellent. Colors look great, brightness is strong, HDR content pops, and the slightly improved anti-reflective coating does help outdoors, even if it still can’t match Samsung’s latest panels. ProMotion remains one of Apple’s biggest wins, with buttery-smooth refresh rate transitions that you never have to think about. Battery life is where things get frustrating. At launch, this was easily the best battery life I’d ever seen on an iPhone. After multiple software updates, that advantage has shrunk noticeably. Seven hours of screen-on time is still solid, but when updates make things worse instead of better, that’s a problem worth talking about. I also cover ongoing iOS issues, including keyboard accuracy problems, general bugs, and yes, my continued hatred for the iOS 26 Photos app. Cameras are still very good, especially for consistency, but photo quality no longer feels special compared to the competition. Video, however, is still where Apple dominates. Stabilization, reliability, and overall video quality remain unmatched on any Android phone. Finally, cellular performance deserves real credit this year. The Snapdragon X80 modem has been rock solid, with faster speeds, better call reliability, and smoother Wi-Fi to 5G handoffs than previous iPhones. So is the iPhone 17 Pro Max bad? No. Is it revolutionary? Also no. It’s still a safe, reliable choice, but after four months, it’s clear Apple played things very safe this year. Let me know in the comments how your iPhone 17 series is holding up. I’m genuinely curious if my experience is common or if I just got unlucky. #trending #iphone17promax #technology
