Don't forget to LIKE, COMMENT and SUBSCRIBE! Thanks! This drill practices movement in all directions and in particular will help you to develop the proper technique of how and where to have your pistol when moving backwards, forwards, and sideways. If you add a magazine change or two into the drill, you will develop your mag changing skills while moving in all directions. The setup is simple and requires very little equipment. For indoor setup, you require 3 shooting boxes and three target stands. IPSC targets are used and you can add no-shoot targets to increase the shooting difficulty if you are seeking more of a challenge. The targets are setup to correspond to each of the three shooting boxes. Target can be setup 7-12m away. For outdoor setup, you require 5 shooting boxes and 3 to 5 target stands. You may place a target in front of each shooting box (5 targets) or use three target stands (and targets) as it will simply mean that you will be shooting at angles. Using three target stands keeps the use of equipment to a minimum. As this drill is meant to help you develop your movement in all directions and knowing where your muzzle / pistol should be, you should do this drill between 50% - 75% of your normal speed. Get your movement and position of pistol correct. Don't feel you have to do this drill at full speed. I usually do drills at full speed a few times as I'm getting close to the end of my training session. As well, you don't what to move and shoot any faster than what will allow you to get all Alphas. Working on your accuracy is very important in this drill and is the same with all others that you do. To gain speed you have to give sometime up. What you give up is accuracy for speed. If you are not a very accurate shooter, you don't have a lot of accuracy to give up for speed before it has a serious detrimental effect on your overall performance. Therefore, work on being accurate and speed will come with time and experience. This drill can also be used as part of your Dry Fire Practice training plan! I suggest that you practice this drill a few days at home (Dry Fire) before you go to the range. I do this with most drills if possible. Where should your pistol be when you're moving backwards? Here is the Rule of Thumb. My explanation is in the context of a Right Handed Shooter. If you know that you will have to turn Left to get into your next shooting position while running backwards (facing backwards - up range), you should turn to your Right from your current position and have the pistol at eye level and pointing over your left shoulder while moving backwards. If you know that you will have to turn Right into your next shooting position while running backwards (facing backwards - up range), you should turn left out of your current shooting position and trail your pistol. I hope that makes sense to you. If not, ask and I will explain further but I think the video will make it clearer. I'm using a Contour Roam camera mounted on my ear protectors and an Ion Air Pro 3 WiFi for the second video angles.
