Virtual Choir offers several possibilities to modify and harmonize a melody, in the studio or on the stage. First of all, Virtual Choir allows the automatic correction of the accuracy of a melody line as well as the amplification / suppression of its modulation. In the context of the singing voice, Virtual Choir functions as a high quality "autotune" (the vocoder effect is minimized) and allows to remove or amplify the existing vibrato. Then, Virtual Choir allows you to change and harmonize the melody by transpositions defined by a musical scale, or a mode, or a scale or a temperament. The pitch correction algorithm is the same as that used by “Melodic Scale”, but the transposition here is performed by PS-OLA instead of SuperVP. Each note played is analyzed, then transposed according to a non-linear dynamic function, defined by a musical scale. This musical scale represented by a series of decimal numbers can be defined in real time by playing on a midi keyboard. It can also be chosen from a large list of scales (enharmonic, chromatic, diatonic, pentatonic, non-octaviant, with or without fundamental ...), modes (blues, jazz, Arab-Andalusian, Arab-Persian, Turkish, Indian, Iranian …) And temperaments (Pythagorean, natural, mesotonic, unequal, by multiple divisions…). Finally, it can be entered manually as a sequence of numbers. For studio creation, Virtual Choir offers a palette of colors and tunings allowing to tint an original melodic line and produce a choral effect automatically. On stage, Virtual Choir not only allows a voice to sing right but also in unusual temperaments. Virtual Choir uses PS-OLA technology which enables pitch transposition of a high quality monodic source. The lack of the “vocoder effect” positions Virtual Choir as an alternative to autotune ™, which can be used in a wide variety of musical styles. https://forum.ircam.fr/ https://www.ircam.fr/
