Wes Streeting is set to launch a leadership challenge to oust Sir Keir Starmer this morning after resigning as Health Secretary, with Angela Rayner waiting to throw her hat into the ring. After a chaotic 72 hours in Westminster, Mr Streeting is reportedly preparing to launch his campaign to replace Sir Keir as Prime Minister this morning. Reports claim that the Health Secretary has amassed the 81 Labour MPs needed to trigger the formal contest. Separate reports say that if Mr Streeting launch the challenge, then the former Labour leader and current Energy Secretary, Mr Miliband, would also enter the race. He is purported to be considering pitching himself as the soft-Left's candidate in the contest, with favoured figure Andy Burnham unlikely to stand. Meanwhile, former Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner has been cleared by HMRC of deliberate wrongdoing or carelessness over her tax affairs, paving the way for a potential leadership bid. 88 Labour MPs have publicly called for Starmer to resign - while a separate list of over 110 Labour MPs has called for him to stay in post.
