It Ain't Me Babe

A small look at my process of making videos on my other channel. Outside of editing the video, this took a little over two hours to record and edit the audio to a version that I was happy with. For perspective, this is an easily found song (compared to the variants of folk songs I normally record), I recorded a "Master Track" that I would not worry about playing correctly or getting the words right as long as the timing was correct, this took 3 attempts. Next I did the lead instrument that would be the basis of everything else (The Banjo), this took 5 attempts after a practice run, not only to get a version I liked, but to make sure it synced up with the master track's timing. Third I did the lead vocals, this was fairly easy and was done in one take. Forth the Rouge Dreadknot Guitar, since I used it in the "Master Take" It only took one try after some practicing of melody that I wanted in the instrumental. The Mandolin... This took 8 attempts plus practice, I wanted to use it for harmony but never could get something that both sounded good and matched the timing of the other parts of the song, so I eventually settled on chopping and melody during the chorus (Which took two of the eight attempts). The Right backup vocals, I recorded a good take but then got out of sync with the Left Vocals, so after redoing it was a total of 5 attempts. Lastly the left vocals, I knew I wanted something specific and it took a minute to find it, after 5 takes of getting the timing wrong and forgetting what voice I was doing the song came together. About one final 15-30 minutes of adjusting volumes and a final sound check I had a result I was happy with uploading.
