I wrote Research Chemical this past winter, when I was back home in Toronto recovering from an injury. A visit to the hospital led to an unexpected reunion with an old friend I hadn't seen in over ten years, who was dealing with a similar setback. While we both recovered, we entertained each-other over the phone almost every day. At the time, I had felt like a wrench was thrown in my plans, and I was dreading the next two bedridden weeks. Now, when I listen back, I realize the essence of the song is about finding joy amidst stillness, cherishing each day even when confined to a bed 🎀
