Jack Daniels
The Jack Daniels pattern may seem complicated, but if you follow the video, you will see that it's really not too difficult. Begin with a jig hook with an appropriately sized copper bead at the front. Don't vary the bead color. Use copper. Begin with black thread behind the bead and work towards the hook bend. We want the pattern to be pretty slim, so be careful with your wraps at the back end. I will throw in a half hitch just to keep the black thread from sliding around. Now find a place to rest your bobbin of black thread behind the fly. Now, start beige thread behind the bead and take wraps back to the hook bend. Keeping the body slim, make sure the black thread at the hook bend is well covered. From there, create the slightest of tapers moving from the hook bend to behind the bead. Move your beige thread (yes, you are now tying with two bobbins) out of the way. Grab your black thread again and spin the bobbin clockwise to cord up the thread. Take the corded black thread and begin taking open wraps up to behind the hook eye. This will create a defined rib over your beige body. You can whip finish and cut off your black thread at this point. Add a very thin layer of UV resin over the body - top, bottom, and sides. Use your bodkin to remove any excess resin. You want it coated, but you don't want a thick coat of UV. Now, hit it with your UV light. With your beige thread behind the bead, create a short dubbing loop. On one side of the loop add three-quarters of an inch to an inch of black UV ice dubbing - dubbed on tight. Next. prepare about the same length of medium grey dun CDC fibers in a clip and place it in the loop right where the dubbing is located. Keep the CDC sparse. Spin your dubbing loop tightly which will give you a combination of black dubbing with CDC fibers sticking out. Take touching wraps with your dubbing loop to create a rather small collar. Stroke back the CDC fibers with each wrap until you are behind the bead. Whip finish and remove the beige thread. I will pick out some of the CDC fibers to make the CDC even more sparse. The fibers will give the fly movement in the water, but you don't want to overly cover/hide the beige body with black ribbing. You are done with the Jack Daniels. Put some in your box and hit the river.
