On 2nd April 2026, Dr Sven Sachs - an international expert in fossil plesiosaurs and marine reptiles - visited the James Mitchell Geology Museum in University of Galway to inspect specimen JMM FC M 032. This Jurassic plesiosaur specimen was originally collected in Lyme Regis in the 19th Century and is mounted high up on the NE wall of the museum. A special scaffold was constructed to allow Sven to study the specimen in meticulous detail - it was also carefully cleaned prior to study, probably for the first time in over a century of being on display.
