Joe Higgs Interview 1990, Pt 1

This is an excerpt from an interview conducted by our late director, Stafford Ashani, with Joe Higgs, a legendary figure in Jamaican musical history. The interview was conducted near Canarsie Pier, Brooklyn, NY, on July 15, 1990, and it's a great and informative conversation with a lovely human being, who was much more than Bob Marley's mentor. Joe Higgs' contribution to reggae is immeasurable; he was both witness and vital participant in the music's development. The easy rapport between Stafford and Joe on display here, is a pleasure to watch and listen to. The full interview with Joe Higgs and numerous other reggae artists, represent a vital oral history of Jamaican culture. Most were shot (on analog video) between 1984-1994. I am currently in the process of digitizing, mastering and compiling these interviews for preservation and public consumption.
