Joint Pain Solved shows you exactly how to monitor your joint pain so you can get out of pain as fast as possible and how to know if what you are doing is helping or hurting you. First, what is your pain on a level on a scale from 0 to 10 where 0 is no pain and 10 is the worst pain imaginable. After you identify that, record it. Now, track your pain level everyday. Second, let’s track what your pain level is in various positions. If you have low back pain, track your pain level of standing versus sitting. If you have hand pain, what are the best and worst positions for your hand? Write down your pain number for each of these positions. The point is to use mostly the positions which scored the lowest on the pain scale. The reason why is when the pain is at it’s lowest, we are likely not doing any damage. However, when we are in positions which increase the pain the most, we may be slightly damaging the joint where the pain is. For example, let’s say that you have pain in your low back. Assume that when you stand up, your pain is at 5 out of 10. However, when you sit down, assume your pain goes down to a 2 out of 10. What this means is that we want to sit down as much as possible since sitting is likely not causing any more damage to the spine. It may be possible that when we stand up, this is causing us damage and our pain may even increase over time! This is why it may be critical to try out different variations of standing if a different variation results in a lower pain score. For example, if some individuals with low back pain tuck the front of their pelvis upward (toward their head), this will reduce their pain significantly. Therefore, they should tuck their pelvis whenever they stand up as much as possible. This may be the biggest factor in them eliminating their back pain. This whole process takes time which might mean days, weeks, or months for some people. Be patient. Things will get better if you track your pain scores, insure you are mostly using the best possible positions, and get help. Help could be seeing me, a physical therapist, a chiropractor, doctor, or a health professional which can help identify the positions which are best for you. It’s also common for some days to be worst than others, but overall, we want you to be gradually getting better.
