Overview of latent variable methods in longitudinal data analysis. Emphasis on Mplus software. Structural equation modeling approaches reviewed including growth curve modeling or latent growth curve modeling, latent difference score methods, discrete time survival and continuous time survival analysis, and complex elaborations on these. Example applications in cognitive aging research and with special discussion on methods for operationalizing the concept of cognitive reserve.
This talk was given during the 15th annual conference on application of modern psychometric and statistical methods in cognitive aging research, held August 19-August 24, 2018 at the Granlibakken Conference Center at Lake Tahoe in California. This is an NIH/NIA-funded conference that provides didactic and applied research experiences (work groups) that support the development of expertise to advance the science of cognitive aging. The theme of the 2018 conference was "Cognitive Reserve/Resilience".
