Jota Gumaqueña was danced by the well-to-do families of Gumaca, Tayabas (now Quezon) during the Spanish era. Señor Herminigildo Omana was a musician who said to introduced this dance. During formal gatherings, the girls was attired in girls attired in richly embroidered Maria Clara costume, and the boys in elegant Barong Tagalog. They performed this dance with great dignity and elegance.
Mrs. Rosario Caparros Libranda and Mr. Ricardo Libranda who are direct descendants of Mr. Omana are responsible for the perpetuation of this beautiful dance. It became popular among the young people of the time and it has been handed down from generation to generation.
