Small Funnel (Optional) https://www.dharmatrading.com/tools/4-piece-funnel-set.html 6. Fine Mesh Cloth (Optional- use to strain dye if needed) Instructions Pre-treat your t-shirt 1. Pre-wash your t-shirt in warm water using Dharma Dyer’s Detergent. 2. Mix 1 Gallon of warm water with 1 Cup of Soda Ash in a bucket. 3. Soak your t-shirt for at least 30 minutes. Make a T-Shirt Form 1. Place foam board or cardboard inside a trash bag and tape in place Mix your dye 1. While your shirt is soaking, mix your bubble solution. 2. Add 1-2 Tablespoons of dye to your bubble solution. Stir for at least a few minutes to make sure the dye is dissolved. (Strain with mesh and funnel if there’s too much undissolved dye) 3. Now add thickening ingredients to the dye (Approximate measurements adjust as needed) * 2 TBS Karo Syrup * 2 Tsp Glycerin * 1/4 Tsp Sodium Alginate * 1/8 Tsp Dish Soap 4. Let the dye sit for a while and let the foam subside (It makes it hard to blow bubbles when there’s too much foam) Set up your t-shirt 1. Wring out excess soda ash from your t-shirt but leave it pretty damp. 2. Lay your t-shirt flat and insert your t-shirt form. Blow Bubbles 1. Coat bubble wand in dye solution and gently blow bubbles about a foot away from your shirt. 2. Once you’ve added as many bubbles as you like, let the shirt sit for a few minutes. 3. In the meantime, give your working surface a quick clean up (so you don’t smear dye when you flip it over) 4. Flip your t-shirt over and repeat the process. 5. Let it batch for 12-24 hours (Note: typically you would cover the shirt to keep the moisture in while batching but I find it works better to let it dry out so dye lines and patterns stay crisp) Wash your shirt 1. Begin rinsing your t-shirt out with cold water until the water is mostly clear. 2. Fill your sink or a bucket with hot water and add 1 tsp Dharma Dyer’s Detergent per gallon of water. 3. Let it soak for 30 minutes to let the remaining dye come out. 4. Rinse out residual dye and detergent 5. Now fill the sink/bucket again with hot water, add 1 tsp Milsoft fabric softener and let soak for at least 10 minutes, then rinse again. 6. Dry it using using whatever method you like. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Would love to hear your thoughts on this tutorial.
