Kakuma Bees
We are an agro-environmental enterprise specializing in beekeeping, honey production, and honey value chain development. We generate revenue through the production and sale of high-quality honey and related products, as well as the sale of modern beehives to local beekeepers. By supporting beekeepers with improved equipment and market access, we increase productivity, ensure consistent supply, and create sustainable income opportunities. Our enterprise operates in the beekeeping sector, focusing on honey production, value addition, and market distribution. We produce premium natural honey and over 20 honey and beeswax-based products, targeting high-value markets. The business generates revenue through processed honey sales and the supply of modern beehives and equipment. We operate an off-taker and franchising model, aggregating honey from organized beekeeper groups and ensuring consistent market access. Currently, we work with 127 refugee and host community beekeepers across seven groups, managing 365 beehives. Our production has grown steadily, with over 2,600 kg of honey sold in 2024 and 3,250 kg in 2025, primarily to premium markets in Nairobi. Our zero-waste approach maximizes value by utilizing all hive products, increasing efficiency and profitability. The business continues to scale by expanding beekeeper networks and increasing production capacity to meet rising demand. Our enterprise has been recognized as one of the most innovative social enterprises in Northern and Western Kenya, demonstrating the ability of locally produced, refugee-led products to compete at premium quality levels.
