Layer chicken are major producers of eggs in Kenya. Layer chicken can be kept in cage system or deep litter system. Cages have many advantages. From clean eggs to reduce labour, cages are easy to manage. Nationally, layers population is nearly 3 million, representing 8.3%. On average a layer produces 208 eggs per year. Annual production is 650 million eggs.
