Keeping the Outline

I wrote Keeping the Outline while thinking about how normal a day can look, even when something underneath has already changed. The song follows a morning at Tokyo Station — people moving, trains leaving, screens glowing — everything working exactly as expected. I was interested in that kind of perfection, and how it can slowly push emotion and individuality into the background. Emilly is a designer, but she’s also someone who understands how people shape themselves to fit the world around them. She watches how we present ourselves — through clothes, posture, silence — and how sometimes survival just means keeping a version of yourself visible, while hiding the rest. This isn’t a protest song. It’s not about collapse or fear. It’s about adaptation. About living inside systems that don’t feel hostile — just inevitable. About the quiet feeling that tomorrow will look the same, but never be exactly the same again. Keeping the Outline は、「見た目は何も変わらないのに、内側では何かが確実に変わっている日常」を考えながら書いた曲です。 舞台は東京駅の朝です。人が流れ、列車が定刻で発車し、スクリーンが情報を流し続ける。すべてが正しく動いている。その“正しさ”の中で、感情や個性が少しずつ奥に押し込まれていく感覚に興味がありました。 エミリーはデザイナーですが、それ以上に、「人がどうやって社会に合う形に自分を整えていくのか」を理解している人物です。服装や姿勢、沈黙の仕方。そういうもので自分を守りながら、中心を隠して、輪郭だけを残して生きること。 この曲は、反抗や恐怖を描いたものではありません。 ただ、静かに適応していくこと。 敵意すら感じないシステムの中で生きていくこと。 そして、明日も同じ景色が続くはずなのに、 世界はもう完全には元に戻らない、 そういう感覚についての曲です。
