In a rural area of Kenya women who are part of an adult literacy group have committed to an alternate rite of passage for their daughters so that they will not suffer through FGM (Female Genital Mutilation). In turn they have the opportunity to learn to make kiondos, a crocheted type of basket that is bringing acclaim to the makers and much needed income to their communities.
