I tested whether Kiro's Spec-Driven Development pipeline produces better code than Vibe Mode when both get the same detailed spec. The results surprised me! I gave the same Tetris implementation spec to all three Kiro feature-development modes — Spec: Requirements-First, Spec: Design-First, and Vibe Mode — keeping the model (Opus 4.6), prompt, and requirements document identical. Across 13 qualitative code-review dimensions, Vibe Mode did better than Spec Mode in more areas. Across 28 quantitative static-analysis metrics, Vibe Mode outdid Spec Mode too. Watch the full breakdown of where the unstructured Vibe Mode beat structured Spec-Driven Development, where Spec Mode genuinely earned its keep, and what it means for how you should use Kiro today. 🔗 Links • Full write-up: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/kiro-spec-driven-development-vs-vibe-mode-does-spec-ray-goh-kae2c/ 🛠 Tools referenced • Kiro IDE — https://kiro.dev/ • Anthropic Claude Opus 4.6 (the model used in all three runs) What surprised you most?
