Knitting Action refers to the sequence of movements by which knitting machines form loops in yarn to produce knitted fabric. In both weft knitting and warp knitting, the basic knitting action involves converting yarn into loops and intermeshing them to form a fabric structure. 1. Basic Steps of Knitting Action (Latch Needle – Weft Knitting) The knitting action of a latch needle generally has five main stages: 1. Clearing Purpose: Remove the old loop from the needle hook and open the latch. Action: The needle moves upward, pulling the old loop over the latch spoon, which forces the latch to open. 2. Feeding Purpose: Place the new yarn into the needle hook. Action: Yarn is fed by the yarn feeder/guide into the open hook of the needle. 3. Catching (Receiving) Purpose: Secure the new yarn in the needle hook. Action: The needle descends, and the latch starts to close as the old loop slides down. 4. Drawing Down Purpose: Pull the new yarn through the old loop. Action: The needle continues downward, the closed latch allows the new loop to pass through the old loop. 5. Loop Forming (Knock-over) Purpose: Complete the new loop formation. Action: The old loop is cast off (knocked over) the closed latch and rests on the needle stem, leaving the new loop on the needle. 2. Knitting Action in Warp Knitting (Guide Bar + Needle) In warp knitting (e.g., tricot or raschel machines), the action involves: Overlapping: Guide bars wrap yarn around the needle. Shogging: Lateral movement of the guide bar to position yarn for the next stitch. Clearing: Needle rises to clear old loops. Yarn Laying: Guide bar lays yarn into the hook. Knock-over & Loop Formation: New yarn intermeshes with old loops. Take-down: Fabric is drawn away at constant tension. Email address for business inquiries: [email protected] #Textile Solution
