OData is a web-service technology that was introduced into Dynamics NAV in 2013 and is available in Dynamics 365 Business Central. OData allows you to take data from inside your Business Central system and expose it in a standard format that other systems can read and use, enabling you to integrate with external reporting tools such as Excel and Power BI.
Excel has native support for OData to read the text and use it as a source of data inside of Excel to manage complex sums and calculations. Power BI reads OData can help you create dashboards to slice and dice big volumes of data to present to users for analysis.
