Known by Name
Devotional Reflection - Known by Name In a world where people are often reduced to numbers, profiles, or roles, the gospel reminds us of something deeply personal: God knows our names. Jesus described Himself as the Good Shepherd who calls His sheep by name. A shepherd in the ancient world didn’t manage animals from a distance. He walked among them, cared for them, and knew them individually. When he called, the sheep recognized his voice because they belonged to him. This is the picture Jesus gives of His relationship with us. God doesn’t simply know humanity in general—He knows you. He knows your story, your struggles, your doubts, your victories, and every quiet prayer you’ve whispered. Long before you ever thought about Him, He already knew you and loved you. The prophet Isaiah captured this beautifully when God said, “I have called you by name, you are mine.” Those words are not just poetic—they are covenant language. They declare that we belong to Him. Through Christ, we are not strangers trying to earn God’s attention. We are children already known and called. That truth changes everything. When we feel overlooked, forgotten, or invisible, we can remember that the Creator of the universe speaks our name. When we feel lost or unsure of where we belong, we can trust that the Good Shepherd is still calling, still leading, still guiding. And one day, when our journey is complete, the greatest joy will be hearing His voice again—calling us home. Because the greatest miracle of grace is not simply that we know God. It is that He knows us by name. Prayer Lord, Thank You that You know me by name and call me Your own. Help me to rest in that truth and walk in Your presence each day. When I feel unseen, remind me that I am fully known and loved by You. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Created & Produced by Steve Penner - 2026 with AI Generated Vocals and Instruments
