We contrast the traditional view of “Algorithms + Data Structures = Programs” with OOP’s data-centric approach, showing how this shift helps manage complexity in large systems. The discussion highlights the advantages of OOP, including simplifying code management, reducing debugging effort, improving modularity, and promoting code reuse. Core principles such as objects, classes, methods, state, encapsulation, object identity, and minimizing coupling are introduced, setting the stage for understanding the design choices behind Java and other object-oriented languages.
