Spitting is a defense mechanism that alpacas use when they feel threatened by animals or humans. One threat is when a male attempts to breed a female. If the female alpaca is not ready to breed, she will give at the least, a threat of a spit. We call this behavior testing. Alpaca farmers and ranchers use behavior testing as a tool to see if a female is pregnant. #LAAFarming
