When we feel the soil, we can get a lot of clues about many of its physical properties. A gritty feel indicates high percentage of sand while a smooth sticky touch indicates the presence of more clay. From this, we can think about how to water the soil and what plants can fit well.
Feel method is a cheap way that can be done with simple tools anywhere to determine the soil texture.
