The places we live and work, the devices we touch and use, the things we wear, even the signs we follow are all created by designers. They add value not only to us as to individuals but to organizations and society as a whole. They create and reinforce culture. Their work is ubiquitous their canvas is the world we live in, yet they are anonymous. This series aims to change that by exploring the work of twelve designers (graphic design and product design) who have made a difference, not just in their particular discipline, but also in the larger cultural, social, and economic landscape. It will, of course, be of profound interest to the people who practice and teach design, but it will be, hopefully, more than that. It will reveal the very human stories of passionate, strong-willed people who have dedicated their lives to translating abstract ideas into the objects we love.
