Regeneration of the riverside in Langport, Somerset, has given this traditional market town a new lease of life. Five years on from initial completion of the Langport River Project, the Upper River Parrett attracts around 250,000 visitors per year and new businesses and services have opened up in the town. To celebrate the project’s success, local film-maker Gordon McKerrow has produced a short documentary about how it has helped put Langport on the map. The regeneration project was organised by Langport Town Council and the Inland Waterways Association (IWA), and the video is based around an informal commentary by Val Saunders, Former Leader of Langport Town Council, and Ray Alexander of the IWA. Both were involved from the start. In the video they pay tribute to the committed partnership working and volunteer effort, not just by the council and IWA but also by community groups and local businesses.
