In this video, we will start reading in XAFS data and show the steps for normalizing XAFS data. Since sources and quality of data and experimental drifts can vary quite a bit, this is both one of the most important steps in XAFS data processing and one of the most challenging to fully automate. The goal is to get XAFS data that goes from 0 below the edge to 1 above the edge so that it represents the absorption by one "average" atom. Normalized data will be used in all downstream analyses, and variability in the normalization will alter the downstream results.
