Launching Steam Crashes My PC
I don't know is actually cause-and-effect, or what is purely coincidence. The task-manager and mouse-movement is just there to show processes running, to see precisely when the PC freezes. The music playing is similarly there to show when the freeze occurs, as well as the peculiar "sound loop" that it gets stuck on when the PC crashes. Known Factors: * PC Specs: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/29739819 * Windows 8, up to date * Hadn't restarted my PC or steam in about a week, give or take. * Was using a Logitec G930 headset, which was failing so I got a new headset. * Anti-virus eSet NOD32. * Software on startup: Voice Meter Banana, Telegram, Discord, Logitech Gaming Software (for webcam), Logitech Webcam Software, Intuos Pro M, NVIDIA Experience/taskbar app * Running Steam in "Safe Mode, with Network" works, steam loads as expected. * Intermittently during some of the "Tests Ran" below, steam would load. However, it would subsequently fail to load if exited and re-launched. Events leading to failure: * Plugged in a new Steelseries Arctis 7 headset * Installed Steelseries "Engine" software and drivers for headest * Restarted PC, started steam. * Experienced the behaviour displayed in the video. Tests Ran: * Uninstall steelseries "engine", still failed (re-installed again for future tests) * Re-install Steam Try 1: deleted all files but steam.exe, re-ran steam.exe * Re-installed steam, with all games moved outside of steam (as if no games were installed) * Re-installed Steam via windows-uninstall, re-installing via fresh steam.exe download. * Launch steam with Ethernet cable unplugged (eg: no network) * Antivirus not/running * Steam ran as administrator (and not) * Windows Theme enabled/disabled * Voice Meter Banana not/running
