Lazarus' Gate v2
Verse 1: Rich man's table overflows Fine linen and perfumed clothes While outside his gilded gate Lazarus accepts his fate Dogs lick wounds upon the ground Heaven's eyes look down, look down Verse 2: This world offers wealth and fame Comfort, pleasure, honored name But I see beyond the door To what angel armies bore Lazarus to Abraham Far from all this world of shame Verse 3: Let me learn from Lazarus Poor in things that gather rust Rich in faith and heaven's gold Treasures that will not grow old Though my flesh may waste away Glory waits beyond today Bridge: Oh to have the beggar's eyes Looking past these temporal lies For the feast that never ends Where the last are welcomed in Where the poor in spirit find Riches of eternal kind Verse 4: So I'll gladly bear the cross Count this fleeting world as loss Let my pride be stripped away Like old Lazarus that day For the joy that waits above In my Father's endless love Final Verse: When my journey here is through Angels bear my spirit too Past the rich man's burning pain To where comfort heals all shame Found at last in Abraham's rest With poor Lazarus the blessed Ending: Far beyond the rich man's gate Heaven's feast for those who wait Heaven's feast... for those who wait Rich man's table lies in dust All his treasures turned to rust While in heaven's banquet hall Lazarus has gained it all So Lord give me beggar's eyes Till my spirit homeward flies And when angels carry me Past earth's fading vanity Let them find me at the gate Like old Lazarus who waited Poor in gold but rich in grace Till I saw my Savior's face Till I saw... my Savior's face
