LCD Interfacing with Microcontroller | LCD with 8051 Microcontroller | Nuvoton Controller with LCD

This Video demonstrates the interfacing of 2x16 LCD with Nuvoton Microcontroller. Code is developed in Embedded C. Circuit Diagram is also given. Pull up Resistor is also connected with PORT 0. Many times we come across LCD displays everywhere around us. Digital Clocks, Computers, calculators, Pulse Tester, television sets, mobile phones use some kind of display to display the information. An LCD is an electronic display module that uses liquid crystal to produce a visible image. The 16×2 LCD display is a very basic module commonly used in DIYs and Electronic circuits. The 16×2 translates o a display 16 characters per line in 2 such lines. In this LCD each character is displayed in a 5×7 pixel matrix. This display consists of total 16 pins. 1.GND 2.VCC 3.Vo 4.Rs 5.Rw 6.EN 7.DB0 8.DB1 9.DB2 10.DB3 11.DB4 12.DB5 13.DB6 14.DB7 15.Anode 16.Kathode but RS pin is very important to interface it with microcontroller, let's see its functions. RS (Register select) A 16X2 LCD has two registers, namely, command and data. The register select is used to switch from one register to other. RS=0 for command register, whereas RS=1 for data register. Command Register: The command register stores the command instructions given to the LCD. A command is an instruction given to LCD to do a predefined task. Examples like: initializing it(0x38) clearing its screen(0x01) setting the cursor position(0x0E) controlling display , line selection etc. Data Register: The data register stores the data to be displayed on the LCD. The data is the ASCII value of the character to be displayed on the LCD. When we send data to LCD it goes to the data register and is processed there.
