Learn the basics of how to complete a clearance examination in accordance with HUD’s Lead Safe Housing Rule from certified lead risk assessors/inspectors and HUD’s Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes (OLHCHH). A clearance examination is used to determine and report whether a lead-hazard reduction activity was successfully completed, and the space impacted is clean enough to safely re-occupy. A clearance examination must be completed after HUD-funded rehabilitation in target housing that includes lead abatement, interim controls, paint stabilization, paint repair, or any combination thereof.
