The OVERALL OXYGEN BALANCE equation is first derived and discussed. Following such, the blast furnace is conceptually bifurcated and a BOTTOM SEGMENT OXYGEN BALANCE equation is derived. Thermal and chemical reserve zone s in large industrial blast furnaces are discussed in detail. Possible graphical representation of the two equations thus derived are also presented.
