This lecture starts with an estimation of the lattice energy of KCl using the Born-Meyer equation. That value is then compared with the experimental lattice energy determined using a Born-Haber cycle, and the two are shown to be in reasonably good agreement. In the second half of the lecture we consider the structures of MX2 metal dihalides.
