Leitzinger vs Fox: Fundamentals
Watch/listen with your tuner on. I stop, slow down, repeat many times to check and correct pitch. I don't expect any bassoon to be "in tune" as it's not the nature of the instrument. What is of greater interest to me is how easily and quickly I can make the needed adjustments. The Leitzinger continues to surprise and intrigue. For example, it presented with a lot of resistance on the single tonguing exercise. Granted it's brand new and I'm comparing it to an instrument that enjoys all the benefits of being old, well-maintained, and quirks pretty well figured out. I play each segment for several minutes. You will want to watch for when I change bocals on the Leitzinger. Long Tones/Chromatic Tuning Single-Tonguing Double-Tonguing Christopher Weait warm-up, pg 1 Milde #1 After posting the original video, Mr. Leitzinger contacted me directly to explain that the instrument had been traveling on exhibition and was likely very far out of adjustment by the time I received it. I met him and played on this exact instrument at IDRS 2019 in Tampa and found the instrument to be completely different. I played on the same Model II I had trialed in this video at the conference for about 20 minutes. It was by no means an exhaustive trial but clearly indicated that the instrument was not at peak performance when I had it on trail. You can learn more about these instruments and set up trials from U.S.-based Leitzinger artist, Frank Morelli. https://www.morellibassoon.com/ www.bassoonwithaview.com
