Lessons From A Mom
This Mother's Day message highlights the life of Mary, the mother of Jesus, discovering powerful lessons for every believer through her example of faith. Drawing from Hebrews 12, we were reminded that while Jesus is always our ultimate focus and perfect example, Scripture also points to faithful witnesses whose lives encourage us to run our race with perseverance. Mary stands among those examples as a woman whose life consistently pointed beyond herself and toward the purposes of God. Through Mary’s story, we explored three defining characteristics of discipleship. First, Mary was a vessel of honor, receiving God’s calling with humility and surrender as she declared, “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Second, she was a voice of wisdom and authority, treasuring God’s promises in her heart and directing others toward obedience to Christ with her words, “Do whatever He tells you.” Finally, Mary was a vehement follower, remaining steadfastly devoted to Jesus from the manger to the cross and even into the birth of the early church at Pentecost. Mary’s life forms a clear pattern for all of us: Receive. Reflect. Respond. Receive God’s calling like a vessel He can fill. Reflect His truth with wisdom that points others to Jesus. Respond with fierce, enduring devotion no matter the cost. Though Mary’s story is remarkable, her greatest testimony is that she magnified Christ, never herself. Her life reminds us that faithful discipleship always leads people to Jesus—and calls us to run our own race with perseverance until the finish line.
