This video presents my perspective on a high-profile murder case from the State of Florida. Four young men have been charged with first-degree murder and now face life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. This situation is deeply tragic because these individuals are being used as a cautionary tale for young black men who choose to break the law—a concept known as “Sweat Equity.” When I first heard this term, I immediately recognized its negative connotations and associated it with “work.” However, after learning more about it, slavery became the only analogy that came to mind. Words fail to adequately convey the dire consequences that await these young men who deliberately took a life. May the Lord provide solace and support to their families and friends during this difficult time.
