This is a lego scale model of an FRC robot and the level 3 step. 1 stud = 1 inch. A long linear actuator is used to lift the robot. At the base of this lift is a small foot pad that is hinged. When the robot has reached an appropriate height, the hinge is activated (pneumatic in this case) causing the robot's center of mass to pass over the pivot point and land on the platform. The lift mechanism is retracted afterwards to remove the foot pad from the floor. Note that the robot chassis is free to pivot about the lift mechanism, so it remains relatively parallel to the floor.
