Using your iPhone or iPad as a Lidar Scanner Chuck Powell, Cory Archer WestLand Resources is looking at the new feature in the Apple Pro Series iPad/iPhone: the ability to collect and export lidar point clouds. The functionality of his first-generation tool is amazing, especially in regards to what you can collect. But how useful is it for our typical projects? We are investigating 3rd party apps and workflows that allow export into both GIS and CAD systems. We will share details of our research findings, demonstrate the tool and show examples of collected scans. Differencing USGS 3DEP Lidar Topography Chelsea Scott The USGS 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) is an effort to collect nationwide lidar by 2023. This session will use results from Indiana to discuss the challenges to performing state-wide differencing, including designing the differencing algorithm, projecting the datasets into the same coordinate reference system, and scaling up the differencing process. We will also discuss 3DEP differencing in Arizona, which can now be performed around Flagstaff, Tucson, and Safford.
