Brad Miller (BAM Lifters) has been building our mechanical roller lifters for nearly a decade. This video is an excerpt from a Facebook Live at PRI 2024. This clip focuses on the three available types of lifter bearings which in increasing cost order are: needle, bronze and coated steel. Brad explains the benefits and features of each type in great detail. Needle and bronze bearings are well known to most racers as both have been around forever. The issue with needle bearings relates to the engine damage incurred if they fail and circulate through the engine. Bronze bearings negate this risk but wear and eventually require rebuilding. Valve lash will require adjustments to compensate for this wear. The coated steel bearings are less widely known and offer significant advantages over their lower cost counterparts. If properly oiled, the “diamond-like carbon” coating virtually eliminates wear thanks to its high hardness and extremely low coefficient of friction. This maintains constant bearing clearances and greatly extends their life expectancy. Call us at 815-725-2727 if you’re interested in ordering a set of mechanical roller lifters for your engine.
