Light Interference Pattern - Quick And Easy Setup!
Teacher, student, or just interested science enthusiast, we may find ourselves in want or need of a light interference pattern that a laser can provide, but without a set up that is either difficult or time consuming (or both). With some graphite mechanical pencil lead and modeling dough, I show an extremely simple and quick set up that, as long as you have a laser and a dark enough room, you can have a light dispersion pattern in about ten seconds. Best of all, it's easily variable in terms of the width of the light passage slits, and while not an official double-slit experiment set up shown in this video, easy modifications to this set up shown can provide one with such a precise experiment, should one desire. I hope you enjoy this useful trick I found as I taught waves in AP Chemistry over the years that I did. When in a pinch, thinking about it, I was staring in a drawer, trying to figure out how I could do it, and of the items in that drawer, mechanical pencil lead and modeling dough were among the other random Science Teacher items.
