LINBIT SDS Solutions for Windows
LINBIT open source software-defined storage (SDS) solutions are not exclusive to running on Linux. In this video, taken from the 2026 Q1 LINBIT Community Meeting, LINBIT developer Johannes Khoshnazar-Thoma introduces LINSTOR and DRBD Reactor for the Windows platform. Khoshnazar-Thoma is the LINBIT lead developer of WinDRBD, which is a Windows port of DRBD for Linux. WinDRBD has been developed since c. 2016 and deployed in customer production clusters for more than five years With LINBIT SDS open source software for Windows, Windows systems administrators can use the convenience of LINSTOR and DRBD Reactor for managing the lifecycle of highly available Microsoft Storage Spaces storage. An administrator can even use the convenience of the open source LINBIT GUI for working with LINSTOR for Windows, as shown in the video. Mixed Windows and Linux clusters are also possible. For an example use case, Khoshnazar-Thoma shows using LINBIT SDS for Windows to create a highly available Microsoft SQL Server database and demonstrates a seamless failover between cluster nodes, where database access persists through the failover.
